Community food pantries play a vital role in the fight against hunger, providing immediate relief to families facing food insecurity. In Paulding County, Georgia, this mission comes to life every day through the dedicated efforts of volunteers committed to making sure no one goes hungry.

Last year, members of the Divine 9 fraternities and sororities, along with the Masons and Eastern Stars, came together to create the Paulding United Food Pantry. In just one year, they’ve made an incredible impact—celebrating their anniversary the best way they know how: by giving away even more food to families in need.

“It’s not just food insecurity; we see a lot of things. We have a lot of homelessness as well,” shared Byanca Beasley, a local school social worker.

The reality is heartbreaking. Paulding County is one of the poorest districts in metro Atlanta, and its students face more than just hunger. Many are without stable housing, lacking basic clothing, school supplies, and hygiene products. The Paulding United Food Pantry, alongside its satellite locations, has stepped up to meet these needs—offering not only food but also clothing, hygiene supplies, and school essentials.

“Our kids have a need for food, clothing, supplies, and that’s where Paulding United stepped in,” said school social worker Kim Cayetano.

But the struggle isn’t unique to Paulding County. According to the USDA, over 12.8% of U.S. households experienced food insecurity in 2022. That’s more than 17 million households wondering where their next meal would come from. And for households with children, the situation is even more dire—over 8.8 million children lived in food-insecure homes that year.

These aren’t just numbers. These are parents skipping meals so their children can eat. Students showing up to school in yesterday’s clothes because their family couldn’t afford laundry detergent, much less new outfits. Families forced to choose between paying rent or buying groceries.

The connection between food insecurity and homelessness is deeply intertwined. When families face the impossible choice between housing and nourishment, both stability and dignity are lost. Hunger doesn’t exist in isolation—it walks hand-in-hand with poverty, housing insecurity, and systemic inequality.

Yet, even amidst these harsh realities, hope shines through. Community-driven initiatives like the Paulding United Food Pantry show what’s possible when people come together. With the help of school counselors and social workers, families receive the support they need without shame or judgment. These pantries don’t just fill shelves—they fill hearts with hope.

At Meals N Feelz, we believe no one should have to worry about their next meal. And while we work to empower donors and support food programs nationwide, we’re also here to celebrate the incredible work already happening in communities like Paulding County.

Because when we unite—when we choose generosity and compassion over indifference—we can ensure that every child, every family, and every neighbor knows the simple comfort of a warm meal and a safe place to rest.
