Volunteer for food pantries today—because sometimes, the most important donation isn’t money. It’s time.
The need is real—and right now, it’s urgent

At the Emergency Care Help Organization (ECHO) in Florida, food pantries are running low. The annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is gearing up for May 10, and the nonprofit is preparing to receive tens of thousands of pounds of food in just one day.
But there’s a big problem: they don’t have enough volunteers to sort, weigh, and pack it all.
“We are so desperate for volunteers, it’s not even funny,” said ECHO’s Executive Director, Eleanor Saunders.
Last year, ECHO served more than 30,000 people—many of them seeking help for the first time in their lives. One unexpected expense. One job loss. One rent hike. That’s all it takes for a family to go from stable to struggling.
This year, as inflation continues and wages fall short, ECHO is bracing for even more. And while funding matters (and yes, they need that too), sometimes what makes the biggest difference is time.
Volunteers are the unsung heroes of food justice.
They’re the ones on the front lines—sorting the cans, lifting the boxes, and making the delivery runs that turn community generosity into meals on the table.
🙌 If you’re in Florida, we encourage you to step up and help.
Whether you’re an individual, family, school group, or high school student looking for Bright Future volunteer hours, ECHO needs you.
📍 Riverview & Brandon locations are accepting sign-ups now.
You can also help just by leaving a bag of non-perishable food near your mailbox on May 10—letter carriers will take it from there.
The True Power of Volunteering
It’s easy to think that big problems require big solutions—but sometimes, it’s the simple acts of service that have the greatest impact.
When you volunteer for food pantries, you’re not just filling a temporary need—you’re helping create stability for families on the brink. Every box you sort, every can you stack, every meal you help prepare brings immediate relief to someone facing a hard day.
And it’s not just about logistics—it’s about connection. Volunteers bring warmth and humanity to the process. They’re the smiling faces that greet nervous first-time visitors to the pantry. They’re the hands that pack groceries with care, ensuring that families not only have food—but feel valued and seen.
If you’ve ever felt helpless in the face of rising poverty and hunger, know this: your time is a powerful tool for change.
